for Letterpress Letterpress excels at printing solid colour - screens don't work so well, so we'd recommend using a second lighter colour of ink rather than a screen. Continuous tone photographs can be printed, but will result in a kind of retro newspaper look. Large solid areas tend to appear mottled or salty, due to the types of papers used for letterpress. Where reversed text is placed on a large solid area, the text can sometimes fill in a little, so we recommend 12pt or larger - please contact us for our advice on how your design will work Letterpress excels at printing typography and lineart. The beauty of letterpress is in crisp, sharp printing which gives a rich texture of light and shadow across the surface of the paper. For best results, text should ideally be at least 6pt, but we have on occasion successfully printed as small as 4pt. Lines should be 0.25pt or thicker please. If you are looking to print light onto dark, we recommend hot foil which is available in many colours in both a matt and gloss finish - specify a pantone colour and we'll let you see a sample in the closest colour we have.
